Sixteen new residents will shortly move into Surrey County Council’s newly completed, purpose-built accommodation for people with learning disabilities and/or autism, on the site of the former Manor Primary School in Byfleet Village. The development comprises six one-bedroom flats and two 5-bedroom townhouses, with extensive landscaped gardens and state of the art smart technology to help residents learn to live independently.

The project is the second of three Supported Independent Living developments being built across Surrey by the County Council. A similar development in Horley was completed in September 2025 and the first residents are already settling in - and a development of 12 one-bedroom flats in Cobham will be completed, ready for occupation, in February 2026.

At the recent opening of its “sister” development in Horley, Sinead Mooney, Surrey County Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, said: “These new homes in Horley are a fantastic example of how we’re delivering for Surrey – helping people lead fulfilling lives with the right support, in the right place.

“We’re proud to be investing in homes which offer not just safety and support, but also real independence and choice, in the heart of the community. I’m especially pleased to see new technology playing a role in supporting residents to develop skills, build confidence and live life on their own terms.

“We’re looking forward to opening two further developments in the near future and we can’t wait to see the difference they’ll make. Thanks to all partners involved in bringing our vision to life.”
